REDFISH DECAL

Redfish, also known as Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), are a popular saltwater species found along the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern Atlantic coast of the United States. Recognizable by their coppery-red coloring and a distinctive black spot near the tail, redfish are highly valued in both recreational and commercial fishing. While redfish populations were once threatened by overfishing, especially in the 1970s and 1980s, conservation efforts have been largely successful in restoring their numbers. This success is attributed to sustainable fishing regulations, such as catch limits, size limits, and seasonal closures, which have helped ensure healthy spawning populations. Habitat restoration projects, including efforts to protect coastal marshes and estuaries, which are crucial for juvenile redfish, have also contributed to the species' recovery. Conservation measures remain critical to preserving redfish as an important ecological and economic resource in coastal ecosystems.
